APPSC Group
1 exam is the top exam conducted by APPSC to recruit the second line of
officers in the state who are second only to the IAS officers posted in the
state. Most of the posts are of gazetted rank and have the best of the
emoluments in the state. APPSC Group 1 exam is a three-stage exam, which
includes
- Prelims Exam
(Screening paper)
- Mains Exam
- Interview
APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern–Prelims Exam
APPSC Group 1 prelims exam is the objective type exam consists of two papers which are conducted on same day through offline mode. APPSC conducts the prelims exam at the designated centres across the state.

APPSC
Group 1 prelims work as a screening exam for the main exam. The marks secured
in the prelim’s exam will not be counted for the final merit list.
Negative Marking
There is a
provision of negative marking in the APPSC Group 1 prelims exam and the
candidates need to mark their answers carefully. As per the notified rule, for
each wrong answer, the candidates will be penalised with 1/3rd of the marks
prescribed for the question.
APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern–Main Exam
The APPSC
Group 1 main exam is the most important stage of the APPSC Group 1 exam as the
marks secured by the candidates in this exam is considered for the final
result. The main exam is a descriptive type test and the candidates need to
write the essay type conventional answers to the questions asked. There are two qualifying papers in mains- Telugu and English.

APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern – Interview
The candidates who qualify in the APPSC Group 1 main exam as given above will be called for the interview. Usually, candidates are called in the ratio of 2:1 with respect to the number of vacancies. The APPSC Group 1 interview will be conducted at the commission’s premises in Vijayawada. The candidates will be asked questions from their own academic background, their city of residence or city of education, current events and the issues important for Andhra Pradesh.
The
candidates need to prepare for the APPSC Group 1 exam syllabus in its entirety
following the APPSC Group 1 exam pattern.
The final
merit list is prepared based on:
- Candidates’ marks in Mains: out of 750 marks (150 * 5)
- Interview: 75 marks
- Thus, out of a total of 825 marks.
